Walking through the shop kind of IS a slice of "Total Bliss!"

Photo taken inside of Total Bliss in Summerfield, NCWalking around in Nancy McKee's shop again yesterday, I tried to put my finger on the best way to describe it to you. I finally had to stop with "Total Bliss is My favorite high-end home decor and gift store that refuses to take itself too seriously." I think that's because, while every bit an elegant, sophisticated, professional Interior Designer, Nancy McKee herself also moves through the world with sparks of relaxed, comfortable humor.

Spartina 449 display in Summerfield NC shop, Total BlissThe day we first met to discuss the possibility that I would redesign her website a couple of years ago, I left our meeting feeling as if I'd just had coffee with a lifelong friend. Watching her work in her shop, interacting with customers, I still get that same sense today. And observing those customers, I see they feel it too. Yesterday, for example, one of her customers was looking for a very specific item she had yet to locate. Total Bliss didn't carry it either, but Nancy has resources she was happy to share with the woman who was more than pleased to give her contact information for a follow up call. Before the woman left, she was sharing details about her family and their upcoming weekend plans. A stranger watching her leave might have thought the customer was Nancy's next door neighbor.

If I were in the market for a local Interior Designer, I would hire Nancy McKee. The way she puts items together in her shop - sometimes unexpectedly - is exactly the way I think our homes should look. Wine glass with dancing lady stemShe's got that eye for detail that a good designer should have, and being willing to "play" with common everyday items while pairing them with a featured antique or piece of fine art just works so beautifully! Total Bliss is filled with a combination of unique pieces - such as a trunk that makes me nostalgic for a specific corner in the house of a childhood friend's parents long-sold home - and quirky accent pieces - like a wine glass topping a dancing lady glass stem.

While Nancy offers floral arranging services, as well, her Total Bliss offerings also cater to the Do It Yourself crowd. You can either hire her to arrange something beautiful for your home, or buy everything you need to create your own floral masterpiece.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Lampe Berger, here, too. Total Bliss is one of the few North Carolina retailers carrying these exclusive, super-popular fragrance lamps. One of my out-of-state friends, upon learning about Nancy's offerings actually became a big fan of Total Bliss over a year ago, after struggling to find the scent replacement she needed. Nancy did some research for her, discovered it had been discontinued, then made recommendations for similar scents she might like instead. When I called my friend today, she still raves about the great service and how nice Nancy was to her. (And this is a friend with more memory issues than my own!)
