My Granddaddy, Everett Watson, turned 91 years old today. May we all live long, laughter and love-filled lives half as full as his has been.
I love you Granddaddy!
The day after Granddaddy's birthday, it occurred to me that this original blog post would have been a lot better if I hadn't left out some of the back story.
Grandaddy lives in south Alabama. Where he's always lived, except for the WWII years, when he spent more than two years giving of himself in ways I can only imagine. I live in Greensboro, NC.

A few days ago, when Granddaddy and I talked on the phone, the first thing he said was "Where you at now, girl? Never know where you might be!!!" There was a smile in his voice. My Granddaddy and I share the love of "going." Even though he doesn't "go" as much as he used to, I still hear a sense of pleasure when we talk and he asks me about where I am, what I'm seeing, where I'm going next. He tells me about guarding a bridge in Versailles...
The name "Everett" is everwhere up here. On street and freeway signs, on businesses. I grab shots like the one in this photo, whenever I see them. This sign is in Seattle. They make me think of my Granddaddy, and of my brother, who shares his name. A little slice of family on the road...
