Girl bonding: all it takes is a single scent

So I'm in Raleigh for a few days. Well, actually Cary. But whatever. Lots of girl bonding. Good dinner, catching up on interim life stories we've each missed, a bottle of wine...

Now: bedtime. She's on her end of the washroom, I'm on my end. Washing our faces over separate vanity sinks, I'm raving over The Most Delicious Lotion Ever that boyfriend's mother gifted her with. I'll tell you about it later; it warrants its own blog post. Yes. It's That Amazing. So we digress into a dialogue over scents.

"Ooh!" she declares. "Smell this!" She's uncapping a tinned candle. "This smell reminds me of Every Single Crush I Ever Had In High School." Leaning over, she offers the tin to me. I take a whif. Never mind friend is several years younger than I am and the whif I inhale immediately takes me back to college, not high school.

"Drakkar Noir. Of course!" I declare it as if without a thought. Friend howls. "YES! That's it exactly!"

Funny how scents can do that. All those years...
