With all the "new releases" and "emerging artists" and "must hear" tunes available to us these days, we'd never have to hear the same song twice, if we were so inclined. Not that anybody wants that. It can be hard to keep up with everything you'd like to discover. If it weren't for my musician friend, Nathan Daughtrey, I'd miss even more new music than I already do. It was Nathan who shared that he was listening to Paul Simon's, So Beautiful Or So What on NPR's First Listen site this morning. New music from Paul Simon! Why yes, thank you!
Paul Simon's music is often the perfect backdrop to my work, so I tuned in immediately, to enjoy something fresh but familiar. As happens with all good Paul Simon songs, these lyrics weave stories and pull you in in sneaky ways. Since I'm trying to concentrate on work instead of really delving into this new body of work, I'm looking forward to revisiting these new ones for a deeper look and listen soon.
Still, you can't get through an entire Paul Simon CD without having something really grab you, can you?
My favorite so far, this morning? From 'Questions For The Angels' I heard:
If you shop for love in a bargain store
And you don’t get what you bargained for
Can you get your money back?
Oh Paul. It always kinda' seems like you're preaching to me...
