How to double your website traffic in a single day

If I could think of a completely legit reason to send out a non-spammy email to 100 different people every single day of the year, inviting recipients to come to my site and do something simple - oh, like say register for a drawing to herald the Grand Opening of my online Etsy store - I could totally boost my site's traffic. By quite a lot, even. As it is, I had knots in my stomach when I hit send on that One Very Reasonable Email sent to friends and family and customers who (I hope, even believe,) dig my jewelry designs.

Not only am I fairly certain there's nothing in my brain which is wired remotely similar to that of a serial killer? I can't even imagine becoming a spammer.
