So comfortable in her own skin

There's a woman who lives in my town. If we had to label, I guess you'd say we're friendly acquaintances. Sometimes we read each other's blogs.

Last night we both enjoyed the same evening of live music. Rarely have I been so convinced of another's personal comfort level. She moves as one who has never felt self-conscious. When I notice her, I am convinced she never felt awkward or "other" in that altogether unpleasant way "other" can sometimes feel. Her presence seems to indicate: "This is how you do it," without even noticing the message is being sent.

Of course my experience with human nature has taught me that this cannot be the complete picture. All God's children feel hesitant on occasion. Even the most confident among us.

Still I can't help but think, "It'd be cool to learn how to pull that off."

I think we all have our moments where we are that woman and just shine. Sadly, we must share with moments where we think of ourselves--and therefore appear as--complete doofus'. (See my recent blog entry: "How I Flashed the 2001 World Champion of Public Speaking.")

Sean it was also great to finally meet you. I'd figured you'd be all busy working the whole night, only realizing later you'd done the bulk of your work in the weeks leading up to it! Very good time. And I'm very much looking forward to the next one. Thanks for bringing this to our town - and for stopping here to say hello, as well.

Dena, first, I canNOT believe I didn't make it back to read that post before now. So glad you reminded me (and hopefully my readers will find it too,) for the laugh.

Fortunately I must admit that last night I was not nearly as, er, undone as you on that particular occasion. Nor needing to jump off anything tall. Actually I was fine, and had a spiffing time. I just found my observations of this other person leading me to consider some people just have this "ain't no big deal whatsoever" presence that seems to indicate "I'm Always And Forever This Naturally Laid Back And Comfy With Me." Which I just find so remarkable.

So what am I saying? On occasion I'm a little cool. Apparently, though, there are other people who are always and forever a lot cool. Heh.

I have a friend who has always known just what to wear. She is beautiful without being threatening. Men love her and woman would love to be like her. But underneath all the self confidence and witt is a girl whose father was a alcoholic and abused her mother. A girl who grew up thinking that this was acceptable behavior and endured abuse herself from several men her life. She has endured the death of a husband who was the perfect fit and now lives alone in California working for a charter airline as head flight attendant. Appearances can be deceiving. There's always a flip side to every story Melody just remember you;re the perfect YOU!

I only speak the truth. If you don't believe me, ask your Dad. Right Don?
