She still calls 'em "baby"

Tuesday, 25 March, 2008 at 1:06 PM Do you eavesdrop on other people's conversations? Because I do. And then I write about those conversations in my blog! (Although from a certain perspective, it's not really eavesdropping when the conversation occurs in the office you share with one of the people having the conversation you're listening in on.)
Recently I heard the following chat between two colleagues:
Coworker 1: Hi Baby!
Coworker 2: Did you just call me baby?
Coworker 1: Yes...I believe I did.
Coworker 2: I don't actually believe anybody ever called me that before!
At which time I thought to myself: Well you're about to get the surprise of your life, for sure. Seeing as how I call people "baby" on a fairly regular basis and I'm sure to slip up and call you that any minute now, thereby making your shock complete.
Reminded me of this old blog post from more than a year ago: "She calls me baby."
Yes. The whole point of this was actually so I would not have to come up with anything new and fresh to write today. I just needed a hook to send you back to this old piece that I'm certain at least a few of you never got the chance to read in the first place. It's one of the perks of having a long-standing blog. Keep one of these up long enough and you never have to write anything unique again. You can just send readers back around in an endless loop, reading all the stuff you thought up long, long ago.

Sweetie,
I enjoyed reading the old blog again!
Sometimes, like Dena I will refer to your Dad as Daddy to the cat or bird. He will reply, "I'm not her Dad!" or "I don't know where her Dad is!" I love to pick at him.
I was at the vet one day and was talking to my cat, whose name is not baby. "Mommy's baby." The nurse said you can bring Mommy's baby back. I wasn't even aware that I had said that.
Have a great day, Sweetie! Sweet is reserved for Dad.
Love,
Mom
My Dad calls my mother "Hon" all the time. Me he calls "Babe" and his granddaughters "Sweet Heart". Terms of endearment. I hope they never fall victim to the PC world.
Mom, I don't think you usually call me "sweetie" do you? Sometimes "baby" I've noticed in recent years, though. Funny about your kitty at the vet. She caught ya, eh?
Tamara, I hope so too.
I forgot about "hon!" (My favorite "hon" story made it into a blog post here too! Laughing.
Yea, I can hear a dad of yours calling you "babe." ;)
Melody, I don't know if you remember this because we were chatting up a storm not to mention the storm outside the vehicle but as we drove into Baltimore there is a sign that reads
"Welcome to Baltimore" and then careful attached to said sign is a home made addition that reads "HON". People in Baltimore call each other HON. It's a funny joke here in Maryland. I will try to get a photo of the SIGN and send it to you.
The reason I called you "Sweetie" is because you said that you liked to be called "Sweetie"--I didn't know that.
Tamara, great to see your name.
Have a great day!
Love,
Mom
Carol, glad to be reading you too. How's that wonderful husband of yours? I met both of your daughters and your grandson. Hopefully someday I'll meet you and Don.
Tamara, I didn't remember that! How cool... I'd love to see the picture!
Mom, re "sweetie," Got it! :) I don't mind, it just didn't sound that familiar. Love you too!
