A sister kind of day

You're not tired of hearing about birthdays are you? Are you? 'Cause we are just getting started. Before a whole weekend of birthday-oriented-indulgences around here, (cake picture is finally up over here,) sis had hers on Friday and we always try to do something together during the week, if possible. Okay, we did, a little - I hung out and had dinner with her family and ate some of her cake (you should have seen that baby work his spoon when the chocolate cake came out,) and watched a movie. But we didn't do our presents because...

That's today! Today is to be something akin to a holiday. She'll be here at 10 to pick me up and then we're going to...get manicures. No kidding. (If you know either of us very well, you'll know we both generally need but rarely bother going for this treat.) Then to lunch. We haven't chosen the restaurant yet, but there's one rule: Not kid friendly. She has a sitter and if it's kid friendly, we could and would just take Mr. Pie. Since the last two years, nearly, have been "About Mr. Pie." Which is grand most days. But this day isn't, see...about Mr. Pie. It's about us. So we're having lunch at somewhere you wouldn't customarily find crayon boxes waiting in a basket when you arrive, and rows of wooden high chairs over there by that wall.

That'll narrow it down a bit.

And then? A Movie. Yup. We're gonna' see a movie. On the big screen. Which is becoming usual and customary for me, actually. While I can barely recall if I saw a flick in a cinema last year, that was an oddity for me, and I'm back to my old habits. Which is to say I've been to see maybe 5 since the end of December, and I don't intend to stop that pattern. But sis? It's reasonable to say she hasn't walked into a theatre since her pregnancy.

So that's our day. Some of it girly, some of it not, but all of it about us. It's always fun to hang out and so often those times are short and rushed, or involve boy-type-people making demands on somebody's time (I'm not naming any names here, but she's got two of them.)

After that she'll return to domesticity and I'll go meet some single, non-child-bearing types for wings and life will be pretty much back to normal. Until...

Brother's birthday rolls around on February 3, then Mom's age dial slides up a notch on the 16th, and Mr. Pie finally hits the hearty round number of 2 on the 22nd.

But not yet. First it's time to relax into the decadence of today...

Oh, how exciting!

My littlest sister just moved to Cary and we did something like this in a few weeks back! It was wonderful! And, seeing as how she and her hubster and going to be moving after he knows where he wants to go for his Ph.D., then I'd better plan a couple more weekends like that in the next 10 or so months!

Hope you guys had fun!
