How many degrees of separation?

Here's a fun little note I received a couple of days ago. Sis forwarded this email to me:

Subject: funny six degrees internet thing

So, I was reading this home decor blog that I read whenever I want inspiration to shove around the stuff that we have into new places, and I saw a mention about "Those Creative Women," coming up in Greensboro and I clicked on the link and I saw "Melody Watson" and there was your sister. How cool and fun! I wish I could go-- sadly we are hosting [child's name] birthday party that day (a yard full of eight year old boys sounds like pretty much the antithesis of that event), but I clicked over to her site. Please let her know I love her jewelry.

Etsy rocks. And is a big potential black hole for all my money.

This email came from a woman who was in my journalism class in high school, who later became good friends with my sister, who still lives in Greenville, SC where we grew up, and who has recently connected with sis on Facebook. Meanwhile the site she referenced is this internet phenomenon "The Nester." (Yes, people, I'm comfortable calling someone a "phenomenon" when she can get 377 people to post comments in her home decor+ blog in 2 days.)  She Who Saw My Name Online had been visiting Nesting Place when she found a link to Those Creative Women which, I will remind you, is a way cool event being held on November 8 from 10 until 4 and if it's not on your calendar yet I don't quite know why!

So yea, apparently we really are all connected in 6 degrees or less. Any "math types" reading? How many degrees is that? I'm not quite awake enough to put that all together this morning.

Cool stuff, though...

This one's tricky. It could be one degree since you knew the girl in high school. :) And are you connected to this girl through your sister or through TCW? Tricky. Apparently I'm not smart enough at math to handle this one either.

It really isn't the kind of connection that usually ends up in these "degrees of separation" games since we had so many connections years ago. I think I classified it as such after assigning it some sort of new status via statute of limitations. Haven't seen her in 15 years then she finds our show This Way! :)

Prolly no need for either of us to give ourselves a hard time about our math skills in a made up game, though, eh?
