Fabulous discovery tool for combatting writer's block

The site is brilliant, I tell you! Check it out. If you found yourself unable to write, but needing - or wanting - to, you could visit Unbloq.me and discover a great, grand array of suggestions to kick start your writing.

On their instructions page, we're told:

This handy little gadget is here to help spark an idea. Sometimes a picture, a word, a small quote, or a short paragraph is all you need to get back into the swing of things. Clear your mind for a moment from the worry of having writer's block...

And that's exactly what I found it to be - a handy little gadget! Having visited the site this morning, I was offered such prompts as:

  • "Vegetative State"
  • "Trendy"
  • "No wise man ever wished to be younger. - Jonathan Swift"
  • "Upper Class"
  • "It usually takes me more than three weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech. - Mark Twain"
  • A close-up photo of an illuminated, transparent lightbulb with a black background...

Every one of these offerings gave me a sliver of an idea I could have run with, had I been so inclined to actually write about them.

It occurred to me when I started writing this that my own problem here on the blog lately has been not so much that I have writer's block, but more that I've got this huge mashup of thoughts and projects I'm trying to manage and get caught up with, and so when I sit down to blog, I kind of freak myself out and can't blog because I can't calm my brain enough to just enjoy the blogging. But I see the light at the end of the tunnel, today, and hopefully that's a sign that the blogging neglect that's been so rampant lately will be a thing of the past.

And? Now that I have this handy tool, it seems I'll have no end of ideas on days when I do find myself at a loss! Hope you'll enjoy it, too.

I'm going right now! I'm not blocked, but I can't resist an idea generator. :)

OK, I'm trying to figure out how to apply this to composer's block. Requires a little creativity, but I think it's possible. :)

Hello!

Thank you, for your kind words about our little writer's block experiment. We're hoping to expand the site to include a few small features soon, but we're glad you enjoy what we've done so far. I'm gonna share this with the co-creator & put a smile on her face :)

Cheers!

The guy above me ^^ is a stupid face.
But otherwise, he told me about your post - and I'm so glad it's helping someone out there.
As a writer, I know they say the best idea for writer's block is to venture out into the world. I've found that even just looking at words - opening my thesaurus or dictionary to a random page, will give me some idea to run with.
Not to slam going outside. I'm all for it, when I'm not working on my monitor tan.

Feel free to use that contact link - would love to get more ideas on this terrible affliction.

Also - this is a very beautiful blog.
