learn about my jewelry
Making jewelry is a great hobby for me. Although I'm currently taking a break from designing these pieces, it's one of my great loves and where I've found a greater range of creative possibilities than with any other tactile medium in which I've worked. Earrings and bracelets are fun to make. And so I periodically design some new ones, sometimes trying new techniques altogether.
But necklaces - particularly the kind that feature my one-of-a-kind, high-fired, glazed clay pendants - now those are what I love the most. From the stage during which I hold a ball of wet clay in my hands and (usually) have very little idea of
what I'm going to do with it, until it's been formed and textured, smoothed, dried, fired, glazed, then fired again...each of these steps brings its own excitement. And by then I'm just getting started! Once these little pieces of art emerge from the kiln to surprise me with how they've turned out, only then can I decide whether the pendant will look best on a simple cord or combined with beads and interesting fibers. Then I get to choose which kind of beads to use! Then if I'm going to curl and hammer sterling or copper
wire to further enhance the piece, the creative excitement is even greater.
The links on this page will take you to photos of a variety of my jewelry designs, from the most simple beaded strands to the more complex, labor-intensive designs. I especially hope you'll take time to peek at my pendant necklaces while you're here. And feel free to send me your questions or comments. It's fun to hear what people think!
